How do I check out a book?

There are multiple ways you can check out a book. You can choose whichever you prefer!

  • Locate the book in the library, using the call number. If you are not sure what the call number is or need help finding it, you can ask for help from a library staff member. Then, you can either:
    • Check it out using the Mercer Self-Checkout App. For directions, see https://mercer.libanswers.com/faq/323240 or
    • Bring the book to the Circulation Desk to check out. Please make sure you have your Bear card as well.
  • Additionally, if there is a book you would like from a different Mercer campus, you can make an online request for it to be delivered to Tarver Library.

What materials can I check out from Tarver Library Circulation Desk?

Tarver Library has a large collection of physical materials:

  • books
  • DVDs
  • audiobooks
  • CDs

The circulation desk on the 2nd floor also has

  • dry erase markers kits
  • flash drives
  • laptops 
  • calculators
  • headphones,
  • ethernet cords 
  • projectors  
  • HDMI cords
  • phone chargers

You can use your Bear Card to check items out from the Circulation Desk on the 2nd floor.

How do I put money on my Bear card?

Tarver Library has two Bear Card kiosks that can be used to check your balance or add new funds to your account.

There are two kiosks on the 2nd floor:

  • Next to the Circulation Desk: This Bear Card kiosk is CASH ONLY and it is located on the wall next to the Circulation Desk.
  1. Press the button that says "Deposit"
  2. Follow the prompts to add money on your Bear Card
  • Next to the Printer: This Bear Card kiosk accepts cash or credit and it is located next to the column behind the print station.
  1. Press the button labeled "Manage Accounts" on the touchscreen and
  2. Tap your Bear Card to get started.
  3. Follow the prompts to add money to your Bear Card.

NOTE: If you use a credit card, this kiosk will charge a 3% convenience fee.
