In-Text Citations and References

Other than personal communications and common knowledge, every in-text citation must correspond to a reference.  Every reference must have at least one corresponding in-text citation.

Example:

 

The following examples are of narrative or parenthetical in-text citations, with the author cited in the narrative or within the parenthesis.

 

A quote that is longer than 40 words is a block quote.  It uses no quotation marks, and its parentheses fall outside the period.

Example;

Due to the potential risks associated with voicing [in the] workplace, it is plausible to assume that employees may be more willing to engage in voice behaviors such as expressing their dissent opinions and giving novel suggestions when working under an ethical leader. (p. 17)
